Hi everyone, my name is Jessie Goh and yes I am a coffee addict! Like any other coffee lover, I need a coffee in the morning or my day will never start. This addiction has followed me for the better part of my life and it would continue its journey with me throught life. That said, it is a very expensive addiction but I can’t help it! So, for over a year, I have limited myself to only one cup of coffee a day. This coffee is usually homemade and does not cost $3.70 per cup.

To live life a little, I allow myself a little Saturday indulgence and I would spend $3.70 on a cup of coffee to kick start my day before a long work day. By following this plan, I have satisfied my coffee addiction but also saved a whole heap of money. The math is as follows:

$3.70 a cup (Soy flat white – I’m lactose intolerant)

5 times a week

50 weeks (I figured that there will probably be 2 weeks in the whole year when I don’t drink coffee due to various reasons)

Total Savings: $925!

That is about 9 pairs of gorgeous new shoes at $100 a pop….

Saving money does not have to be boring and it definitely doesn’t mean that you have to make sacrifices to the extreme. By cutting back a little, you will be amazed at the amount of savings you can make in your daily life.

This figure includes pre-wedding celebrations, actual day and post wedding honeymoon. It is an amount not many people have readily in the bank. Even if you can afford a $50G wedding, is it smarter to splurge $50G on one day or is it smarter to put that money to a mortgage? You do not need 50G to have a dazzling wedding, what you need is a sense of fun, creative methods and friends and family to help out to make this a day for everyone to remember.

Multi-Task your Bomboniere

Bomboniere can easily double up as place cards. If you are using boxed bombonieres, just simply attach a nice tag with a ribbon and hand-write the name of your guest on the tag. You can get someone with nice handwriting to write the name on the tag for you for a personal touch or do it yourself and express your thanks to your guests.

The Best Part of the Wedding is the…Cake

Know an aunt, friend or second cousin Linda from mom’s side of the family who is renown for their baking skills? Why not get them to bake you a nice wedding cake in lieu of a wedding present. Another way to save money on cakes is to line up your wedding party and bake mini cupcakes. I have also attended numerous weddings (especially Chinese weddings) where the cake doubles up as a bomboniere for the guests to bring home. The cake is usually pre-packed and prettily boxed for the guests to bring home.

Winter Themed Wedding

The warmer months (September through to May) in Sydney tend to be more popular months for weddings to take place. With this said, many vendors will spike up their prices during these months. It’s the simple law of supply and demand which also means that brides and grooms will need to fork out extra for a receptions held during those months. Why not do the opposite and save yourself some money by getting married during the Autumn or Winter. These are slower months for most vendors and you will be able to negotiate a better price for your reception and save money during the process. It is also a good idea to get a couple of quotes from different vendors and use these to your advantage. Often, if a vendor really wants your business, they are willing to price match.

Centrepieces

Floating pieces make great centrepieces

In “1001 Ways to Save Money … and Still Have a Dazzling Wedding“>1001 ways to save money and still have a dazzling wedding”, Naylor states that “there is no need for expensive florist-created centrepieces. Instead, she suggests using floating miniature candles along with flower petals in a large water-filled bowl at the centre of each table. You can easily find these glass bowls and floating candles from discount shops such as “The Reject Shop”. After the wedding, these bowls can be re-used at home or given away to friends and family.
