Style on a Shoestring by Andy Paige
Style on a Shoestring by Andy Paige is an excellent and easy to read book for recessionistas and bargain hunters alike. Andy Paige is a former Ford model and is also the Beauty and Style Expert on NBC’s hit reality show “Starting Over” and Style’s “How Do I Look?”
In the book, Andy talks about various ways of keeping an up-to-date wardrobe and being able to look good without spending a fortune. My favourite chapter will have to be Chapter 2 on bras, undies and other control undergarments. I always had a problem with finding strapless bra that looks good and stays up. Unfortunately, whenever I get fitted at David Jones or Myer, the fitters usually tells me that it is quite impossible to find a good strapless bra that will stay up.
Style on a Shoestring suggested opting for a strapless bra that is one size smaller around the band and go up one size bigger in cup to achieve a stay-put fit (You need to read the book yourself to find out the reasons behind this 
). Armed with a new set of knowledge, I went into Myer and picked out a couple of lovable strapless bras in nude and black and they were on sale at $25 each (Usually $49.95). I knew that was a bargain and I heed Andy’s advise and set out to try on the strapless bras with a smaller band and a bigger cup. Viola! It was a miracle and it actually worked. I was ecstatic that I’ve found a strapless bra that is comfortable enough to wear for a whole day.
A chapter that is not that relevant but still have some interesting points will be Chapter 7 – Mark your calendar. I’m not sure how this chapter will work with Australia, let alone Sydney. However, over the years, I have worked out that the major sales seasons run for about two weeks. The first week of June is usually the stock take sale and of course we have the Boxing Day sale that happens after Christmas.
Style on a Shoestring can be found at Book Depository (£9.31 is about AU$18 and they offer free international shipping), Amazon (US$11.53 is about AU$14 but they charge for shipping ), Borders (AU$30.99 in store), Nile (AU$24.99) and Fishpond (AU$24.33). The local bookstores tend to be more expensive even after taking into account shipping and the very favourable exchange rate. This is definitely a must-read for those who are serious about looking good without breaking the bank.
